National Small Business Week 2026 runs May 3–9, and it’s one of our favourite weeks of the year. Every May, communities pause to recognize the entrepreneurs, founders, and family‑run shops that keep local economies running. This year’s celebration carries extra weight: it marks more than six decades of recognition for the people who turn ideas into storefronts, side hustles into payrolls, and neighbourhoods into communities.
For us, this week is personal. The small and medium‑sized businesses we work with every day aren’t just partners, they’re the reason we do what we do. In this post, we’ll break down what National Small Business Week (NSBW) is all about, how you can get involved, and (our favourite part) spotlight a few of the incredible businesses we’re proud to partner with all year long.

What Is National Small Business Week?
National Small Business Week is the US Small Business Administration’s flagship annual event, honouring the impact of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the United States. Recognized through presidential proclamation since 1963, it brings together founders, mentors, agencies, and industry partners to celebrate achievements and share the tools businesses need to grow.
This year marks a notable milestone. For the first time, the event is co-hosted by America’s Small Business Development Center Network, expanding access to mentorship and practical resources for entrepreneurs. It’s a reminder that while building a business can feel like a solo journey, it’s supported by a much larger community.
At HostPapa, a proudly Canadian company, we’re excited to be part of this celebration. While NSBW is rooted in the US, its spirit resonates globally. We partner with small businesses around the world, and this week gives us a chance to recognize their ambition, resilience, and the meaningful work they do in their communities.

Why Small Businesses Matter More Than Ever
If you want to understand why Small Business Week matters, don’t just look at a spreadsheet; look at a main street. The coffee shop that knows your order, the freelancer who redesigns your reports on short notice, the contractor who finally fixes that thing that’s been broken for years. That’s the real economy most of us experience every day.
Small and medium‑sized businesses:
- Keep money circulating locally, from payroll to suppliers to sponsorships.
- Create jobs that are rooted in communities, not just in quarterly reports.
- Solve niche problems big companies won’t touch, often in unglamorous but absolutely essential ways.
- Bring personality and humanity to the online world through brand stories, niche shops, and services that actually feel like they’re run by real people.
We see that up close with our partners. Some are operating vessels 6,000 metres below the surface. Some are running design studios from Santiago while serving clients in Canada. Some are quietly managing 70+ client websites from their laptop. Others are taking 30 years of word‑of‑mouth reputation and finally putting it online. Different industries, different timelines, but the same mix of grit, creativity, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people who trust them.
Key Events for NSBW 2026
If you’re wondering how to actually plug into Small Business Week this year, there’s a lot happening on and offline.
Here’s what’s on the official calendar:
- Sunday, May 3 – National Awards Ceremony (Washington, D.C.)
SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler will recognize state, territory, and specialty award winners, including the 2026 Small Business Persons of the Year and other top honorees. - Tuesday–Wednesday, May 5–6 – Virtual Summit (Free, Online)
The free online summit, co‑sponsored by America’s SBDC, runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET both days. Expect sessions on fraud prevention, access to capital, AI productivity, hiring, government contracting, and more. The event will feature speakers from brands such as Visa, Google, T‑Mobile, Amazon, Block, Grasshopper Bank, Lockheed Martin, ZenBusiness, Meta, and others. - Local Events All Week Long
Throughout the week, you’ll see ribbon cuttings, workshops, networking mixers, and awards in cities and towns everywhere. You can browse events on the SBA’s site or search “Small Business Week” plus your city to find something close to home.
You definitely don’t need to do it all. Even attending one session on a topic you’ve been avoiding, like AI tools or contract proposals, can pay for itself many times over.

How Small & Medium‑Sized Businesses Can Participate
Whether you’re a solo founder or running a team of 200, there’s a straightforward way to join the NSBW conversation that doesn’t require a huge budget.
A few simple ideas:
- Register for the Virtual Summit. Block off one or two sessions that line up with your priorities this quarter: access to capital, AI, hiring, security, or contracts.
- Run a Small Business Week promotion. A limited‑time offer, founder’s story email, or “thank you” discount is often enough to drive a little extra revenue and a lot of loyalty.
- Tell your story on social. Behind‑the‑scenes updates, origin stories, and team spotlights tend to outperform generic promos during NSBW. Use #SmallBusinessWeek and #NSBW2026 to join the conversation.
- Support other small businesses. Cross‑promote with non‑competing businesses you love. Feature each other in newsletters, share posts, or bundle services.
- Show up in person. Check SBA’s event listings or your local Chamber of Commerce and choose one event where you can meet other owners face‑to‑face.
Most importantly: don’t overthink it. The goal isn’t to execute a perfect campaign; it’s to show up as a real business run by real people, in whatever way is sustainable for you.

Why We Celebrate Our Partners Year‑Round
Small Business Week is one week. Running a small business is fifty‑two. The late nights, the payroll math, the customer who made your day, the supplier who didn’t come through… that’s the real story, and it doesn’t pause for a calendar.
That’s why we don’t treat NSBW as a once‑a‑year marketing moment. For us, it’s an excuse to say out loud what we already believe the rest of the year: The businesses we serve are doing some of the most important work out there. They’re hiring locally, solving practical problems, and making their communities better places to live, often quietly, without much recognition.
We’ve built our products, support, and services around that reality. With reliable web hosting, hundreds of domain extensions, professional email solutions, and a 24/7 support team, we have everything we need when something breaks five minutes before a big launch. The goal is simple: remove as much friction as possible so that small and medium‑sized businesses can focus on the work only they can do.
To the partners featured above, and to every SMB owner reading this, thank you. We’re proud to be part of your story.
