If you have a HostPapa web hosting account, you may have one of three additional domains: a parked domain, an addon domain, or a subdomain. In this article, we’ll explain the difference between each of these domains so you can decide which one is right for you.
Parked Domains
Parked domains point to your main domain and share the same web pages. They don’t have separate index pages or folders. In effect, a parked domain is another name for your main website.
The most common example is when a company buys multiple extensions for one domain name and points them to the primary domain name. For example, mybiz.ca, mybiz.au, and mybiz.net all point to mybiz.com, but visitors see the same website regardless of the domain name they enter.
With HostPapa’s web hosting plan, you can park as many domains as you like!
Addon domains
An addon domain name is an additional domain name connected to your HostPapa account. It has a different website from your primary domain name. Addon domain websites appear independently of each other and your primary domain’s website when viewed from the Internet, and search engines like Google will consider them all to be separate. If you are a HostPapa plan holder, you may purchase additional domains and link them to your account.
Here’s how to purchase a HostPapa addon domain:
- Log in to your HostPapa dashboard.
- Click on My Domains.
- Click on Register New Domain.
- Fill out the secure form and click Continue.

Subdomains
A subdomain allows you to section off your hosting account to act as a separate website without getting a new domain name. The subdomain address will have a bit of extra information at the beginning of the URL (e.g., www.subdomain.maindomain.com). You can create a subdomain on your own from any domain name you have connected to your HostPapa account.
