Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a protocol used to secure your website by encrypting information as it travels between the HostPapa server and an internet browser visiting your site. SSL is most often used to protect an online store transaction.
When SSL is enabled on a website, a small padlock icon will appear on any browser that views the site informing visitors that they are protected.
To use SSL on your website, you will need two things: a dedicated IP address, and an SSL certificate.
A dedicated IP address is a unique, numeric address assigned to your website.
Unless you have specifically purchased a dedicated IP address, your current IP address is shared with other accounts on the server hosting your website. A shared IP address cannot be used to secure a website.
You can purchase a dedicated IP address at any time, through your HostPapa dashboard:
-
Log in to your HostPapa dashboard: https://www.hostpapa.com/dashboard
-
Click on My Services.
-
Click on Add Services.
-
Under Dedicated IP, click the Add to account button.
An SSL Certificate encrypts and protects your site’s information.
