What is the Media Library?

Media Library is an application that offers downloadable content to website visitors. Within Website Builder, you can add downloadable content such as audio and video files.

Media Library allows you to offer your site’s visitors searchable downloads from a file library. Media Library is also a handy audio and video player. Each page on your website can offer exclusive files via a download section. This facility is easy to add with the Media Library.

Media Library: How to get started

Media Library is added to a webpage in exactly the same way as any other content element. To add the Media Library element to your webpage, please:

  1. Drag-and-drop the Media Library on a blue area of your webpage.
  2. Move and apply the Media Library to your desired position.

To open the properties for the Media Library, please:

  1. Move your mouse over the application.
  2. Click the cogwheel icon.

The Media Library properties include

  • Library Name: The name you choose for a library will only be used internally for your reference. Files added to this library will be available in a Database. The files will be stored under the same Library Name, within the Database Editor.
  • Header Title: This is the title of the Media Library that will be seen by people who visit your website.
  • Show Search: You can complete the tickbox to allow visitors to search through the files in your Media Library.
  • Show Description: You can allow visitors to see a description of each file that is uploaded or later altered. 
  • Items Per Page: Choose how many files are to be shown on each page of the library.

The Add New File button

Below is a screenshot of how the Media Library will be displayed on a page. Please note: The Add New File is only visible in the Admin view of your website. Your website’s visitors will not be able to upload files to your library.

Adding files to the Media Library

To add your files to the Media Library, please:

  1. Click on the Add New File button.
  2. Check out the screenshot below, together with an explanation of the Add File contents:
  • Source: You can upload files directly from your computer via the Upload File button. Files can also be added directly from the Internet by using the Add from URL selection.
  • Name: You can specify a name for your file. The name you choose will be shown to visitors and searched for in the search bar.
  • Icon: You can upload a custom icon that will appear next to your file’s name.
  • Description: You can add a brief description of your file. The description will appear directly under the file’s name.
  • File Order: The position a file has in the library can be changed by setting a file order. Number 1 means the very top of your list.
  • Date: You can specify a date for your file.
