SvelteKit Hosting Explained
What Is SvelteKit SSR Hosting?
SvelteKit is the official application framework for Svelte. It adds file-based routing, server-side rendering, server load functions, form actions, and API endpoints, so you can build a full-stack app in one project.
How you host SvelteKit depends on its adapter. With @sveltejs/adapter-static, the build is a set of static files. With @sveltejs/adapter-node, the build is a Node.js server that renders pages and handles form submissions on every request, which needs a process that stays running.
For SSR, a HostPapa VPS gives you the root access and dedicated resources to run that server. For a fully static build, a web hosting plan works well.
Why Choose HostPapa
A Reliable Home for Your SvelteKit App
Svelte ships lean code to the browser, and a fast server keeps SSR responses just as quick. HostPapa VPS plans give your app dedicated resources, full control, and support around the clock.

How to Deploy SvelteKit SSR on a HostPapa VPS
Self-hosting SvelteKit with the Node adapter takes six steps, from build to HTTPS.
Step 1: Switch to the Node adapter. Install @sveltejs/adapter-node and set it as the adapter in svelte.config.js.
Step 2: Build the app. Run npm run build. SvelteKit writes a standalone server to the build folder. Copy it to your VPS with package.json and your lockfile, then run npm ci --omit=dev.
Step 3: Set ORIGIN and PORT. Set the ORIGIN environment variable to your public URL, such as https://example.com. SvelteKit uses it to validate form actions behind a proxy. Set PORT to the local port you'll proxy to.
Step 4: Run it with PM2. Start the server with pm2 start build/index.js --name my-app, then pm2 startup and pm2 save so it restarts after a reboot.
Step 5: Put Nginx in front. Configure Nginx as a reverse proxy that listens on ports 80 and 443 and forwards requests to your app's local port, such as 127.0.0.1:3000. Your app never has to run as root or bind to a public port.
Step 6: Add HTTPS. Point your domain's DNS at the VPS, then use Certbot to issue a free Let's Encrypt certificate for Nginx and set it to renew automatically.

Pick the Right Environment
Which Plan Fits Your SvelteKit Project?
Choose an Unmanaged VPS if your app uses SSR, form actions, or server endpoints and you want full control over Node.js, PM2, and Nginx.
Choose a Managed VPS if you'd rather have our server administrators handle operating system patches, updates, and migration help.
Choose web hosting if you build with adapter-static and every page can be prerendered. Upload the output like any static site.

Can I run SvelteKit server-side rendering on HostPapa?
Yes, on a HostPapa VPS. Build with @sveltejs/adapter-node, run the output with PM2, and put Nginx in front as a reverse proxy.
Why do my form actions fail behind a proxy?
SvelteKit checks the request origin to protect form actions. Set the ORIGIN environment variable to your site's public URL so it matches what visitors see.
Can I host a static SvelteKit site on web hosting?
Yes. If you use @sveltejs/adapter-static and every route can be prerendered, the build is plain static files that any web hosting plan can serve.
Which SvelteKit features need a server?
Server load functions, form actions, API endpoints in +server.js files, and on-demand rendering all need the Node adapter and a running server.
How do I update my app without downtime?
Build the new version, copy it into place, and run pm2 reload my-app so PM2 restarts the process without dropping requests.
Does HostPapa offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can deploy your SvelteKit app and test performance risk-free.
