In 2012, ocPortal was rebranded as Composr CMS. If you see both names, they refer to the same software family. ocPortal 9 was the last version under that name. Is ocPortal still supported?
The ocPortal name was retired in 2012 when the software was rebranded as Composr CMS. The Composr CMS project is still actively maintained and updated. You can install either ocPortal 9 (legacy) or Composr CMS (current) through our Softaculous installer.
What's the difference between ocPortal and Composr CMS?
They're the same software at different points in its history. ocPortal 9, released in 2012, was the last version under the original name. The project was rebranded to Composr CMS, which continued development with the same core philosophy: an all-in-one CMS with built-in community features. If you're starting fresh, we recommend installing Composr CMS.
Is ocPortal free to use?
Yes. ocPortal and Composr CMS are completely free and open-source, including for commercial use. You don't need to buy a license or upgrade to a paid tier to use the full feature set. You only pay for hosting.
What PHP version does ocPortal require?
ocPortal 9 works with PHP 7.4. Composr CMS supports PHP 7.4 through PHP 8.3. We offer all of these versions on our hosting plans, and PHP 8.1 or newer is recommended for the best performance with current Composr CMS releases.
Can I migrate my existing ocPortal site to HostPapa?
