Django Hosting Explained
What Is Django Hosting?
Django is the high-level Python web framework known for its batteries-included approach. It ships with an ORM, an admin interface, authentication, form handling, and strong security defaults, so teams can build data-driven sites and APIs quickly.
In production, Django runs behind an application server like Gunicorn, with a web server like Nginx handling HTTPS and serving static and media files. You also need a database, a place to store secrets, and often a task queue for background work.
A HostPapa VPS lets you set up that full stack the way Django's deployment checklist recommends, with dedicated resources and root access.
Why Choose HostPapa
A Reliable Home for Your Django Project
Django gives you a lot out of the box, and the server under it should keep up. HostPapa VPS plans give your project dedicated resources, full control of the stack, and support around the clock.

How to Deploy Django on a HostPapa VPS
A production Django deployment comes down to six steps. Run python manage.py check --deploy along the way to catch common settings issues.
Step 1: Set up your environment. Install Python 3, create a virtual environment, clone your project, and install dependencies with pip install -r requirements.txt.
Step 2: Configure production settings. Set DEBUG = False, list your domains in ALLOWED_HOSTS, and load SECRET_KEY and database credentials from environment variables.
Step 3: Prepare the database and static files. Run python manage.py migrate, then python manage.py collectstatic to gather static assets into one folder Nginx can serve.
Step 4: Run Gunicorn as a service. Start your project with gunicorn myproject.wsgi and manage it with a systemd service so it restarts on failure and on boot.
Step 5: Put Nginx in front. Configure Nginx to serve your STATIC_ROOT and MEDIA_ROOT folders directly and proxy everything else to Gunicorn.
Step 6: Add HTTPS. Point your domain's DNS at the VPS, then use Certbot to issue a free Let's Encrypt certificate for Nginx and set it to renew automatically.

Pick the Right Environment
Which Plan Fits Your Django Project?
Choose an Unmanaged VPS if you want full control over Python, Gunicorn, Nginx, PostgreSQL, and Celery workers.
Choose a Managed VPS if you'd rather have our server administrators handle operating system patches, updates, and migration help.
Choose a dedicated server if your Django platform serves heavy production traffic or needs full hardware isolation.

Can I host a Django project on HostPapa?
Yes, on a HostPapa VPS. Run Django with Gunicorn, manage it with systemd, and use Nginx to serve static files and proxy requests.
Which database should I use with Django?
Django supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and SQLite. PostgreSQL is a popular choice for production because Django supports many of its features, and you can install it on the same VPS.
How do I serve static and media files?
Run collectstatic to gather static files into STATIC_ROOT, then have Nginx serve that folder and your MEDIA_ROOT directly instead of passing those requests to Django.
Can I run Celery workers for background tasks?
Yes. With root access you can install Redis or RabbitMQ as a broker and run Celery workers and Celery Beat as their own systemd services.
Can I use Django Channels or async views?
Yes. Run Django under an ASGI server like Uvicorn or Daphne to support async views and WebSockets, and configure Nginx to pass WebSocket connections through.
Does HostPapa offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can deploy your Django project and test performance risk-free.
